Post Doctoral Fellows

  • Maria Gilleece (Bednar) 2012-2016
    • While at UNC her accomplishments include:
      • Conducting and managing translation research on multiple projects centered around HIV-1 and SHIV tropism
      •  Designing, performing, and analyzing experiments
      • Mentoring and training an undergraduate for 2.5+ years as well as graduate students, technicians, and other laboratory personal
      • Participating in and managing several collaborative projects within the University, and with other Universities
      • Writing Grants including budgets; 2 personal T32 and F32 postdoctoral fellowships which were both funded
      • Presenting 4 poster presentations and 6 oral presentation at national meetings and within the University
      • Writing protocols, manuscripts, and reviews, as well as editing and reviewing others manuscripts, grants, and educational materials.
    • After UNC she worked as a Research Scientist at Bayer Crop Science and then as a Scientist II at Biogen in Durham, NC

Olivia Council

  • Graduated in 2020 with her Doctorate Degree
  • Journal of Virology, June 2020 – “Deep Sequencing Reveals Compartmentalized HIV-1 in the Semen of Men with and without Sexually Transmitted Infection-Associated Urethritis”
  • After completion of her degree she accepted a position

Blaide Woodburn

  • Graduated in 2022 from the Department of Pharmacology as Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmacology
  • Journal of Virology, September 2022 – “Characterization of Macrophage-Tropic HIV-1 Infection of Central Nervous System Cells and the Influence of Inflammation”
  • After completion of his degree he accepted a position as a Life Science Specialist at L.E.K. Consulting in Boston, Massachusetts

Xavier Bonner

  • Graduated in 2023 from the Department of Biochemistry & Biophysics as a Doctor of Philosophy in Biochemistry & Biophysics
  • After completion of his degree he accepted a position as an Associate Consultant at Triangle Insights Group in Durham, NC

  • After working at the UNC HIV CURE Center in Dr. Dunham’s lab for a year he then continued his education at University of North Carolina Medical School

  • Graduated 2020 with a degree in Biology (B.S) and Chemistry (B.A)
  • Continuing his education at Hofstra University Zucker School of Medicine

Claire Amon

  • Graduated 2021 with a degree in Biology (B.S)
  • After graduation moved to Wisconsin to work full time for EPIC as an implementation project manager
